Why convert between CSV and JSON?

CSV is the easiest format to open in Excel or Power Query, while JSON is what most APIs, config files and web connectors expect. BI developers often need to move data between the two: turning an API response into a table to load, or exporting a Power Query table as JSON for another tool to consume.

How to use this converter

No installs or sign-up needed. Pick a direction, add your data, and download the converted file.

  1. Choose CSV to JSON or JSON to CSV at the top of the tool.
  2. Drag a file onto the drop zone, or click it to browse, or paste your data into the input box and click Convert. A dropped or uploaded file is converted straight away.
  3. Check the result in the output box.
  4. Click Download file to save the converted file, or Copy to copy the text.

Frequently asked questions

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. Even when you drag in or upload a file, it is only read by your browser on your own device. The file is never sent to a server, and the converted file is created locally too.

Does it handle commas or quotes inside my CSV values?

Yes. Fields wrapped in double quotes can safely contain commas, quotes or line breaks, following standard CSV quoting rules.

What if my CSV has different column counts per row?

Missing values become empty in the JSON output, and any extra values beyond the header row's column count are ignored.

Do numbers and true/false values convert to real JSON types, or stay as text?

CSV to JSON keeps every value as text, since CSV itself doesn't store data types. Edit the output afterward if you need real numbers or booleans.

Can it handle nested objects or arrays when converting JSON to CSV?

Not directly. This tool expects a flat array of simple objects, one per row. A nested object or array inside a record is converted to its JSON text in that cell rather than split into more columns.

Is there a row limit?

There's no hard limit built in, but very large files may take a moment longer since everything runs in your browser rather than on a server.
