DAX Dynamic Segmentation (Banding) Measure

Buckets customers into segments using a separate banding table instead of hardcoded thresholds, so the bands can be edited without touching DAX.

Advanced PatternsAdvanceddynamic segmentationbandinglookup

DAX code

Customer Segment =
VAR CustomerSales = [Total Sales]
RETURN
    CALCULATE(
        SELECTEDVALUE('SegmentBands'[SegmentName]),
        FILTER(
            'SegmentBands',
            CustomerSales >= 'SegmentBands'[MinValue] && CustomerSales < 'SegmentBands'[MaxValue]
        )
    )

Notes

'SegmentBands' is a small disconnected table with MinValue, MaxValue and SegmentName columns that business users can edit directly.
