DAX Average of Monthly Totals Measure

Averages sales across whole months, rather than averaging daily transaction rows.

StatisticsAdvancedaveragemonthlysummarize

DAX code

Average of Monthly Totals =
AVERAGEX(
    SUMMARIZE(ALLSELECTED('Date'), 'Date'[Year], 'Date'[Month]),
    [Total Sales]
)

Notes

This avoids the common mistake of using AVERAGE directly on a fact table, which averages individual transactions instead of monthly totals.
